Why is Cortina famous for powder snow?
Located at the north end of Hakuba Valley, Cortina receives heavy snowfall from the Sea of Japan. Deep powder accumulates in the tree zones. Less crowded than Happo-one, so powder stays untracked longer.
How do I get to Hakuba Cortina from Tokyo?
Hokuriku Shinkansen to Nagano Station (90 min), then Alpico bus toward Hakuba (70-80 min). Cortina is in Otari village, north of central Hakuba. Some hotels offer shuttle from Hakuba center or Nagano Station.
Is Cortina good for beginners?
Cortina has some beginner terrain but is better known for intermediate and advanced skiing. The tree skiing requires skill. For beginners, nearby Hakuba Goryu or Iwatake offer more suitable slopes. Cortina excels for powder hunters.
What accommodation is available at Cortina?
Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba is slope-side and offers ski-in/ski-out access. The hotel has onsen baths, restaurants, and all-inclusive packages available. Otari village also has smaller pensions and ryokan.
