Yawata Highland 191 Resort

Yawata Highland 191 Resort is on the Yawata highlands of Kitahiroshima in northern Hiroshima, an area that sees some of the heaviest snowfall in the Chugoku region; the district recorded 207 centimetres in 2011. The resort is built around that reliable snow rather than high elevation, running from a 1,000-metre top to a 300-metre base for a 700-metre vertical drop, with a longest run of 1,100 metres.

Seven courses are served by four lifts, and the steepest pitch reaches 31 degrees. There is a terrain park with kickers, rails and boxes, plus a dedicated sledding area for families. The resort was known as Yawata Kogen 191 until the 2010-11 season, when it took its current name; the 191 comes from National Route 191, which runs through the area.
